Rudy’s Pizza

Rudy’s Pizza has been described to me as the pride of Ancoats and the best pizza in Manchester. When it was announced that Liverpool was getting it’s very own Rudy’s, I couldn’t wait to see what all the hype about.

We went to the new Castle Street pizzeria on Saturday evening, and let me tell you now, Rudy’s completely lives up to the hype. Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff (they know their pizza!), super fresh ingredients, and excellent use of the space all come together to make Rudy’s the place to get pizza in Liverpool at the moment.

Our waitress explained Rudy’s pizza making process. All of their dough is made fresh at 7:30am every morning, just using flour, water, salt and yeast. What’s special about Rudy’s pizza dough is it’s proven for 24 hours, making it easier and lighter to digest. I ate a lot of pizza and I didn’t feel bloated afterwards. We ordered olives and salted crisps to start.

We ordered four different pizzas for our mains: Portobello, Calabrese, Tarantina and Ancozzese (vegan). The pizzas are huge, and I did take leftovers home to enjoy the next day, so sharing one pizza between two wouldn’t be out of the question. I opted for the vegan option without cheese but the white pizzas look delicious.

My leftover plan was also tactical one, leaving room for dessert. We ordered Tiramisu and Affogata with Amaretto and coffee. I went for the vegan Affogata option of a dairy-free honeycomb sorbet, which didn’t hit the spot as much as ice cream would have, but enjoyed the mixture of an espresso and a shot of Amaretto.

After we’d eaten we had some after dinner drinks at the spacious bar, underneath a beautiful glass dome skylight, decorated with hanging plants from locals Root Houseplants. When the building was previously Cau, the skylight was covered, but it is such a striking and unique feature to the restaurant, I’m glad its on display again. We drank Hugo Spritz cocktail (gin, elder-flower and prosecco) and the house white, a beautiful Italian wine called Palazzo del mare.

Rudy’s is such a chilled place for pizza and after dinner cocktails. Their pizza is definitely at the top of my Best Pizza I’ve Eaten This Year list and I cannot wait to return.

You can find Rudy’s on Instagram and their website

A huge thank-you to all of the staff at Rudy’s and We Are Indigo for the invite. We were invited to eat but all opinions and pictures are my own.
